The photos of the STL

March 9, 2013

I visited the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) in the Netherlands this week, and was given a tour of the tribunal including the public gallery of the courtroom and the press office.

I was told that the courtroom was built cost-effectively since this is another ad hoc tribunal. It also could learn a lot from the predecessors to be efficient – eg.

it has three interpretation booths of the tribunal’s three official languages and one more booth in preparation of a witness who does not speak any of the official languages.

Probably, this could be so far the best courtroom of the international criminal institutions in the Hague.

The pictures are the courtroom and the press office of the STL. These beautiful photos are by courtesy of the Chief of General Services of the STL. Thank you very much, Jan and Giulia.
